IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Josephine
Smith
February 11, 1934 – August 7, 2024
Josephine Smith, daughter of the late Lafayette Simmons Sr. and Losia Mable (Robinson) Simmons, was born in Jamestown, South Carolina, on February 11, 1934. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 2:55 p.m.
She received her education in the Berkeley County Public Schools.
She was united in holy wedlock to Watus Price, Jr. This union was blessed with three children. She later married Rev. George S. Smith Sr. From this union, she was blessed with a loving stepdaughter and son.
Sister Smith attended Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church (Jamestown, South Carolina) from her youth. She was always a member of a church family during her lifetime. She was a long time and faithful member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD until her death. When she could no longer attend church physically, she would watch her favorite church services on television every Sunday. She had a beautiful voice and could always be heard singing around the house.
She worked different jobs during her lifetime. She went to work every day, no matter the weather, or how long it took her to get to her place of employment. This responsibility of going to work every day, and always being on time, is something she instilled in her children and her children's children. She loved beautiful flowers and plants.
Sister Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. George S. Smith Sr., and a brother Elder Lafayette Simmons Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: son, John H. Price; daughters, Evelyn V. Shpiegelman, and Shirley L. Price; stepdaughter, Shelah Zakat; stepson, George S. Smith Jr.; six sisters, Annie Dezurn, Evelyn Thurman, Thelma Wooten, Oarther Farmer, and Otha Vice, of Baltimore, MD, Lillie Addison of St. Stephen, SC; two brothers, George Simmons of St. Stephen, SC and Rubin Simmons of Jamestown, SC; three granddaughters, Sharon Miller-Pugh (Darius), Shawn N. Knight, and Candice Wanhatalo (Michael); five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Simmons of Jamestown, SC, and Evelyn Simmons of St. Stephen, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
