Josephine Hamilton Turner entered into the presence of the Lord on January 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Hospice Center, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Known to many as "Mama Turner", she was born August 14, 1927 in Leefield, GA (Bulloch County). She was a daughter of Joe and Sibbie Knight Hamilton. On February 26, 1949, she was married to Will Turner in Bulloch County, GA. He preceded her in death in 1967. Mama Turner was a member of Brooklyn Miracle Temple Church in Brooklyn, NY under the leadership of David Donald Kensey until 1983. She faithfully served as a member of the Usher Board and as its President. Mama Turner also served as a Missionary, Sunday School Teacher and soloist. She was also a great cook. In 1984 she relocated, accompanying her pastor, to Moncks Corner, SC and faithfully continued to serve at Miracle Temple Church until the passing of Pastor Kensey in 1999. She continued to serve the Lord faithfully and became a member of Heart to Heart International Ministries in 2002. Mama Turner brought joy to many with the pleasant personality and gracious singing. She served as a Greeter for many years before becoming ill. She always sang her favorite song, "Something Down in Me Telling Me to Go Head." During Mama Turner's stay at UniHealth Post Acute Care in Moncks Corner, she was active in all activities, especially the worship services where she sang for all. She also loved to play Bingo, collecting bingo bucks to go shopping. Mama Turner touched the hearts of many at UniHealth. She will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memories: two loving and devoted sons, John Fitzgerald Turner of New York and Clyde William Turner of Moncks Corner, SC; a sister, Lillie Hamilton of Statesboro, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
