IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Juanita
Wayman
January 16, 1951 – June 10, 2021
Juanita Avery Wayman was born on January 16, 1951, at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. She was a daughter of the late Mary Smalls Wayman and the late Titus Wayman. She departed this life on June 10, 2021, in Richmond, Virginia.
Juanita graduated from Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn, NY. She earned an Associate degree in Business at Iona College, New Rochelle NY and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration at Strayer University, Glen Allen, VA. Juanita was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia for over five years and worked in the banking industry for over 20 years. She retired from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Juanita met and married James Avery Jr., and from this union they were blessed with a daughter, Monique Shree' Avery.
Juanita was a member of St. Peters Baptist Church in Glen Allen Virginia, for over 20 years under the leadership of her pastor, Dr. Kirkland R. Walton where she served on the Yokefellow Ministry and the S.H. Thompson Memorial Choir.
Over 29 years ago, Juanita came to visit a friend in Richmond, VA and fell in love with the state of Virginia so much that she packed her bags, her daughter Monique and her niece Nakeyia and was Richmond, VA bound.
Juanita enjoyed singing in the choir, cooking, and especially gardening. If Juanita came to your house and saw a plant that was dying or needed some help, she would ask to take that plant home and nurse it. Juanita would give it some plant food and do whatever else she did (her secret) and brought that plant back to life - she truly had a green thumb!
Juanita is survived by: her daughter Monique Avery of Richmond, VA; sister, Delores Howard Wayman of Chicago IL; nieces, nephew, cousins, godchildren and a host of friends.
