The Life of Josephine "Julia" Hamilton Wilson
Josephine "Julia" Hamilton Wilson, daughter of the late Lawrence Hamilton, Sr. and Ruth Crawford Hamilton, was born on November 10, 1942 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. She departed her earthly tabernacle on Tuesday morning, August 1, 2017 at her residence.
Julia's
formal education was attained through the Berkeley County School System.
As a young woman, she began her Christian pilgrimage and became a member of Greater Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and served as an usher.
After Julia's marriage to Joshua Wilson, she joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in St. Stephen, SC where she served on the Missionary Board.
Julia was an outstanding woman with a heart filled with love for many, especially children. Her love for family and friends was visible and heartfelt. She had a happy personality and loved to smile and laugh. She was employed by the Hamer and Umphlett family as a housekeeper for many years. Julia was more than an incredible housekeeper, but a mother on the job and beyond. Julia loved, cared and reared many children whom she called her adopted children: Lathea Page, Shaquasha Stafford, Khadijah Gillins, the late Minister Dion Glenn Vandross, Brittany, Jessica and D'ona Vandross, Frankie, Haley and Cinder Hamer, Anna Hensarling, Janet Livingston, Karen and Will Umphlett.
Julia was preceded in death by: her husband; her brother, Sam Smith Hamilton and her son, Derrial Hamilton.
She leaves to treasure her fond memories: a loving and devoted daughter, Mildred Hamilton of Moncks Corner, SC; two sons, Norris (Cynthia) Hamilton of Shulerville, SC and Alphonzo Hamilton of Moncks Corner, SC; one brother, Lawrence Hamilton, Jr. of Bronx, NY; twin sister, Elizabeth "Blanch" Hamilton Gillins of Moncks Corner, SC; three grandchildren, Trinity Bryant, Dalvin Danorrio and Diamon Danorria Hamilton all of Shulerville, SC; sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Wilson and Helen (Pete) Davis both of St. Stephen, SC, Stephanie (Henry) Grant and Felisa (Amefika) Geuka both of Florida; one uncle, Henry Crawford; one aunt, Virgie Vandross; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
