Lathro "Buddy" Callum, son of the late Ellen C. Phyall, was born on January 3, 1942 in Jamestown, South Carolina. Buddy, as he was affectionately called, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He received his education in the Berkeley County School System, graduating from Russellville High School in 1961.

Buddy received training as a commercial driver and a fire protection inspector. He was a member of the Universal Masonic Brotherhood, Inc.

Buddy accepted Christ at an early age and joined New Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamestown, SC. After moving to New York, he became affiliated with Christ Church, United Church of Christ, under the leadership of the late Rev. Wendell Foster and Rev. Dr. Bruce C. Rivera. He dedicated himself to Christian service in the following capacities: Male Choir, Usher Board, Trustee, Kitchen Aid and feeding the homeless and elderly. After he relocated back to Jamestown, Buddy rejoined New Mt. Zion AME Church where he continued to serve faithfully until his health declined.

While living in New York City, Buddy worked with Housing Preservation Development and MTA-NYC Transit Access-A-Ride. He was also a long distance truck driver and he was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Callum is survived by: his children, Milean Callum (Travis), Nyshia V. Callum Ringer (Joseph), Jean Marie Hall, Kenneth Callum, Rodney A. Callum and Eric R. Callum; siblings, L.K. Snider (Evelyn), Cassandra Thompson, Jimmie Callum (Jean), Eldridge Callum (Mary), Lloyd Callum (Cynthia) and Sheila Greene (Henry); grandchildren, Demetrius E. Hall II, Deniseya D. Hall, Brittany C. Rhodes and Carolyn Crystal Ringer; great-grandchild, Melanie Rose Hall; a special friend, Annie Ham; bonus daughter, Altovise Yelverton (Haywood); a devoted friend, Clayton (Dee) Kelly, along with the Ramsey, Ham and Witherspoon families; a loving cousin and caretaker, Yvonne "Tootsie" Davis; other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at New Mt. Zion AME Church, 1553 French Santee Road, Jamestown, SC. Burial will be in New Mt. Zion AMEC Cemetery. Viewing will be on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
