Lavinia Evans Donnelly, a daughter of the late William Henry Evans, Jr. and Susan Rachel Cooper Evans, was born April 5, 1914 in Cordesville, South Carolina. She departed this earth peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 6, 2010. Lavinia attended Cordesville Elementary School and graduated from Avery Institute. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, SC. Her first teaching assignment was at St. Stephen Elementary School as a first grade teacher. During her teaching career, Lavinia taught in Mt. Holly, SC, Hemingway, SC, and Berkeley County, SC. In 1975, she retired from teaching after forty years of dedicated service. Lavinia was a long time and faithful member of Greater Emanuel AME Church where she served as a Stewardess. She attended services regularly until her health declined. Lavinia was united in marriage to Wilbert T. Donnelly who preceded her in death. Lavinia loved gardening, sewing, and cooking. She cooked the best fried chicken and potato salad. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life: a loving and devoted sister, Mabel Evans Coaxum of North Charleston, SC; three sisters-in-law, Frances Donnelly of Johnsonville, SC, Sylvia Woods of Mt. Vernon, NY, and Evelyn Woods of New York, NY; special niece, Gina C. Benton (Silas) of North Charleston, SC; special nephew, Jackie I. Coaxum of Columbia, SC; godson, Wilbur Gethers (Lutrica) of Ladson, SC; special cousins, Bertha R. Davis (David), Ethel G. Davis, Alma G. Brown and Wilford L. Hamilton; special caregiver, Carrie Warren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends.
