Obituary

Leo Rivers, son of the late Calvin and Jannie Fludd Rivers, Sr., was born March 14, 1939 in Cordesville, South Carolina. He received his formal education in the Berkeley County public schools. He retired from the Francis Marion National Forest in Cordesville, SC. Leo accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined Emanuel A.M.E. Church, now known as Greater Emanuel A.M.E. Church, in Cordesville, SC. Leo was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, the late Mrs. Estelle Susannah Gadsden Rivers. Their union was blessed with five children. Leo was known by many nicknames and would answer to "Mud Bone", "Johnny", "Charlie" and "Papa". His friends and grandchildren affectionately called him by these names. He enjoyed cooking, baseball, cook outs, and entertaining anyone who came in contact with him. His conversations were filled with jokes and laughter. Most of all, he enjoyed all of his grandchildren. On Sunday, July 12, 2015, God instructed an angel to carry the soul of Leo Rivers to his Mansion that was prepared for him by his Father God in heaven, where he now resides. He was preceded in death by siblings: Shirley Rivers and William "Bill" Rivers. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: five children, Anna Mae (Charles) Milligan and Jerry (Patricia) Rivers of Moncks Corner, SC, Joddie Rivers, Pandora Rivers, Yvon (Philip) Mack of Cordesville, SC; one brother, Calvin Jr. (Lois) Rivers of Andrews, SC; mother-in-law, Nancy Lee Gibbs of Cordesville, SC; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha (Michael) White of Cordesville, SC, Pearla Mae (Jerome) Sumpter of Hampton, SC, Virginia Limehouse of Cordesville, SC, Marion (Adell) Gibbs of Huger, SC, Gloria (Rev. Jerome) Wilson of Kitfield, SC and Rev. Anton (Hellen) Gibbs of Longridge, SC; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren all of South Carolina; two loyal friends, Henry Ferguson, Jr. and Raymond Brown of Cordesville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
