Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." - 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV

Leon Mack, son of Eunice Vernell Mack and the late Alphonza Mack, was born on August 19, 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina.  Leon entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House, Summerville, South Carolina.

Leon was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, South Carolina and was a 1974 graduate of St. Stephen High School.  While in school, Leon played football his senior year for the St. Stephen High School Rams and drove school bus as a student driver.

Leon loved trucks. Upon graduation, Leon received his commercial driver's license and entered the transportation industry.  Leon was a truck driver for over 35 years, starting out as a long-distance truck driver travelling the continental United States.  Because of his career, Leon knew many of the highways and great diners throughout the United States and often travelled with a physical atlas even as recent as a family weekend trip in July of 2021. Leon was last employed with Mundy Companies of Moncks Corner, South Carolina where he worked for almost 25 years making many lasting friends.

Leon knew the Lord at an early age and accepted Christ as his personal Savior.  Leon was a faithful and diligent member of St. Peters Baptist Church of Pineville, South Carolina.  Leon served on the choir, usher board and acted as a trustee. He served wherever he saw a need.  His latest service to the church was on the kitchen ministry.  Leon loved to cook.

Leon was united in holy matrimony to Marcia Denise Bailey on June 12, 1982.  Leon and Marsh, as he affectionately called her, were classmates elementary through high school. This union brought two beautiful girls, to whom Leon adored. He was so proud of his girls and as of recently, nicknamed them "T" and "J" while he was called 'L."  Leon was truly a family man. He became the driver for many family members taking them to their medical appointments during the day although he worked nights.

Leon's hobbies included listening to music, lawn care, washing cars, cooking, grilling, watching football and his ultimate favorite, fishing. He cherished holidays because it gave him an opportunity to cook on the grill. During football season, you could find Leon cheering on the Timberland High School Wolves, the Clemson Tigers and the Los Angeles Rams. He also was an active member of the St. Stephen High Class of 1974 Alumni group and sub-committee. He loved to gather with his classmates to reminisce about old times and laugh over a good meal.

Leon definitely had the gift of gab.  He could easily fill a room with laughter as he loved to joke.  His easygoing nature made him loveable and fun to be around.  He was a kind soul that left an impression on everyone he encountered.

Leon was preceded in death by one brother.  He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Marcia Denise Mack; two daughters, Tiffany Mack of Columbia, SC and Jasmine Mack of St. Stephen, SC; loving mother, Eunice Vernell Mack of St. Stephen, SC; one brother, Kenneth (Candace) Jones of Carollton, GA; one cousin reared in the home as a sister, Annette (Ronald) Bennett of St. Stephen, SC; one brother-in-law, Bernard Gamble of St. Stephen, SC; one sister-in-law, Terry (Malcolm) Forbes of Owing Mills, MD; eight aunts, Ida (Vanester) White and Lillian Wilson of Atlantic City, NJ, Johnnie Mae McClary of Goose Creek, SC, Affie Gibson of Durham, NC, Annie Ruth Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Wyolene Bailey of Albany, GA, Kattye Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Bernice Samuels of Waterford, MI; two uncles, James Mack of Hyattsville, MD and Lucious (Loretta) Gamble of St. Stephen, SC; and one stepmother-in-law, Janie Bailey of Canton, OH. Leon will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers and friends.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is not receiving visitors at the home. They are grateful for your prayers and understanding during this difficult time.
