Smith

The Man and His Music
Leonard Lee Smith, the son of the late Enoch Smith, Sr. and Dorothy Stevens Smith, was born on November 28, 1948 in the Longridge Community of Berkeley County, South Carolina. Brother Leonard transitioned from this life at home on February 5, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was affectionately known as "Red" to many.
He attended the public schools of Berkeley County and became a member of Canaan Christian Church, where he served as a musician for many years. He later became a member of Greater St. James A.M.E. Church, where he served as a musician also.
Leonard retired from the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), where he worked for thirty years.
He was well known for his love of people, music, cooking, gardening, fishing and riding his Harley (in his younger days).
Leonard lived a faithful life serving God with his love for music. Leonard's gift of playing the guitar served God's Kingdom fully, by bringing the gifts of Joy and Happiness to God's people. He played for: The Gospel Four of Longridge, The Berkeley Male Choir and for Harvest programs at various churches; choirs and groups welcomed his playing, "A Rockstar for Jesus". Lol
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Janice D. Smalls on January 25, 1975. This union was blessed with three children.
Those left who will always cherish his memories are: his wife, Janice S. Smith; his children, Curtis Leonard Smith (Kimberly), Aiysha Smith-Lytch, Brandon Lee Smith and Cory Hall; his grandchildren, Alexandria L. Lytch, Michela S. Lytch and Tiana D. Smith; siblings, Viola Simmons, Patricia Ward (Kenny), Dorothy Harris, Richard Mazyck (Harriet), Goldie Ancrum (Richard), Doralee Polite and Enoch Smith, Jr.; four sisters-in-law; ten brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
