Mr. LeRoy Eugene Johnson, son of the late Mr. Eugene Johnson and Mrs. Bertha Lee Johnson, was born January 7, 1942 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on Friday, July 8, 2011. He was educated in the Berkeley County Public School System and graduated from Berkeley Training High School in 1959. He continued his education at Claflin University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Science on July 13, 1964. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 7, 1964 and received an Honorable Discharge on October 6, 1970. He moved to New York in the late 1960's where he met his beloved wife Janice Campbell, and they were happily married on December 12, 1970. To this union were three children. Utilizing his General Science degree, LeRoy worked as a Lab Technician at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation before he became employed with the New York City Transit Authority and worked as a City Bus Driver for 25 years. While employed with the City of New York, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he was Sergeant of the 719th Transportation Company. He served in Operation Desert Storm in the early 1990's and retired from the United States Armed Forces on July 17, 2002. LeRoy was well respected by all in his community and was known as a faithful and dedicated man of God. He was a member of First and Second St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church (where he served on the Trustee Board) and Friendship Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY. LeRoy later returned to Moncks Corner, SC, and joined Anderson Baptist Church. He was a member of the Senior Choir and was a Pastor's Aid. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his faithful and beloved wife, Janice C. Johnson; three children: Monique L. Nollner (Brian), Byron L. Johnson (Georgiana), and Shameka K. White (Eric); five grandchildren: Daniel C. Nollner, Armune A. White, Omari T. Singleton, Deven L. Johnson, and Eric K. White Jr.; a mother-in-law, Mattie R. Campbell; eight siblings: Edward Johnson (Gladys), Solomon Johnson (Audrey), Freddie Johnson (Gerri), Sarah Lyles (Willie), Robert Johnson (Anne), Derry Johnson, Louella Haymon (Vann), and Cheryl Graham (Bernard); one brother-in-law, Roderick Reid; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
