IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leroy "Junior"
"June" Harleston, Jr.
December 4, 1946 – July 15, 2024
Leroy Harleston Jr., son of Leroy Harleston Sr. and Eliza Grant Harleston, was born on December 4, 1946. Quietly and peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024, our Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of Leroy, and he entered into his eternal rest.
Leroy attended the public schools of Berkeley County, South Carolina.
At the age of fourteen, Leroy moved to New York, to live with his father. He stayed there for over fifty years. For a brief period, Leroy served in the US Army and fought during the Vietnam War. While living up north, he became a loyal New York Giants and Yankees fan. Eppo Leroy was a member of The Charleston Chapter Epicureans, Inc. Leroy held several jobs but the one that he loved the best was with Manhattan Beer Company. He worked there for over twenty years before retiring in December of 2011. He then returned to Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Leroy was married to Diane Hopkins-Harleston. From this union he was blessed with one son and the bonus father to two.
During the summer, Leroy would drive home to South Carolina in his yellow Camaro. After retiring, he made his way back to Moncks Corner to take on the role of caregiver to his loving mother. Leroy felt that it was his time to care for her since he was gone for many years. Together, he and his sister took care of her for five years until God called her home.
After returning to Moncks Corner, Leroy joined Moncks Corner AME Church.
Today we pause to pay tribute to Leroy, a brother, grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Eliza Harleston, wife, Diane Hopkins-Harleston; sister, Shirley Gray, and brother-in-law, Joseph Gray.
Those who share the joy of life with him will always miss and cherish his memories. He leaves one sister Kathleen "Kat" Simmons (Reverend Leonard) of Moncks Corner, SC; bonus son, Eric (Elizabeth) Hopkins; son, Kyle Harleston; bonus daughter, Trenia Hopkins all of New York; five grandchildren: Erika, Toney, Eric, Jr., Evan, Kyla, and one great-granddaughter, India; one brother-in-law, Gregg Hopkins, of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters-in-law, Van Harrison, Lena Jackson and Cheryl Hopkins all of New York; one aunt, Mary Grant of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; one special friend, Janie Louise Spence; longtime friend and co-worker, Dennis Sherrod; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
