Leroy Middleton,
Jr.
August 1, 1938 – November 17, 2016
Leroy Middleton, Jr., son of the late Leroy Sr. and Elease Winns Middleton, was born August 1, 1938 in St. Stephen, South Carolina. He departed this life November 17, 2016 at Pruitt UniHealth, Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Leroy received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC, where he graduated from Russellville High School in 1958. He loved to play football and was a member of the football team.
After high school, he moved to Richmond, VA, where he worked as a chef. While doing what he loved, he was a manager for 20 years at Bill's BBQ & Grill in Richmond. He later returned to South Carolina in 1979, where he continued his expertise as a chef for the Naval Yard Food Service, Charleston, SC. After retiring around 1995, he continued to barbeque for many who loved his delicious barbequed hogs.
At an early age, Leroy joined Allen AME Church, St. Stephen, SC. After relocating to South Carolina from Virginia, he returned to Allen AME where he served as a faithful Trustee. He continued to serve faithfully until his health began to fail.
He is survived by one daughter, Rhoda M. Middleton of St. Stephen, SC; one sister, Ella M. Owens of Moncks Corner, SC; one brother, Arthur E. (Earnestine) Middleton of Washington, DC; one uncle, Clarence (Evelyn) Winns, Jr. of Richmond, VA; two nephews, Bernard (Margaret) Owens of St. Stephen, SC and Ferendo Middleton of Washington, DC; two nieces, Lucille L. Winns of Moncks Corner, SC and Jeanine Middleton of Washington, DC; a special grandniece, Kadijah Winns; a host of grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, and friends.
One son, Alfred Middleton, preceded him in death on October 24, 2016.
