Lewis Campbell, Sr., son of the late Willie and Sarah Campbell, was born May 23, 1927, in the Cherry Hill community of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Lewis was educated in the Cherry Hill public school and Berkeley Training High School. At an early age, he joined Mount Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served on the Usher Board. He later served in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and later relocated to New York. Lewis was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Lee. This union was blessed with five children. His wife preceded him in death. Lewis worked for the government as a Facilities Engineer for over thirty-five years. After retiring, he worked in his garden. Lewis attended Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. On Monday morning, April 23, 2012, at 8:15 a.m., the Lord called Lewis home to eternal rest. Lewis leaves to cherish his fondest memories: his children, Lewis Campbell, Jr., Calvin Campbell, Debbie Lee Ruffin, Wyvette Lee and Matthew Campbell; grandchildren, Lewis Campbell III, Alysa Campbell, Matthew Lee, Preston Ruffin and Aneat Campbell; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Jean C. Rivers, Harold Campbell and Dorothy C. White; one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
