Mr. Lifkin June, son of the late Florence and Johnny June, was born on September 29, 1939 in Andrews (Williamsburg County), South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Saturday evening, September 27, 2008 surrounded by his family. Lifkin was educated in the public schools of South Carolina. He migrated to New York as a young adult to further his education. He was employed as a crane operator with several steel companies for 30 years. He retired from Hunterspoint Steel. Lifkin met the love of his life, Roberta Tew, and after a whirlwind courtship, they were united in holy matrimony on September 27, 2008. Lifkin was affectionately known to his family and friends as "Lip" due to outrageous stories and jokes that he told at family gatherings. Lifkin was preceded in death by one sister, Alberta Miller; three brothers, John Lee June, Earnest June, and Roosevelt June; one niece, Kerene Mason; and one nephew, Rodney June. Lifkin leaves to mourn and cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife, Roberta June; one daughter, Rhonda Y. Tew; two sons, Benjamin E. Tew Jr., Martin M. Tew Sr. (Della) all of New York; his grandchildren, Tiana Tew, Cornell Tew, Shanika Tew, Ashley Tew, Martin M. Tew Jr., Benjamin E. Tew III, Alasia Tew, and Samuel Tew; one great-grandson, Zyier Miller; three sisters, Elouise Mason of New York, Melvenia Jordan (Frank) of New York; May Charles (James) of Philadelphia, PA; one brother, Andrew Lee Timmons (Albertha) of Florence, SC; two brothers-in-law, Willie James Matthews (Shirley) of Jamestown, SC and Linzy Matthews (Mary) of New York; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Miller of New York and Sandra Smalls; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
