Obituary

Lillie Mae Rogers Davis, known to many as "Grandma Lillie", was born on February 17, 1918 in Darlington, SC. She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lizzie Rogers. Lillie answered God's call and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at her home in Moncks Corner, SC. Lillie attended grade school until she was required to assist the family with income. She became employed as a domestic worker and developed close bonds with the families that employed her. She was a dedicated worker and her huge heart became attached to the children she cared for, resulting in a continued relationship with some of those families. Lillie became a member of St. James AME Church in her young adulthood, which later merged with Graham AME Church and became Moncks Corner AME Church. She was a member of the Stewardess Board for many years, and she was the second oldest mother of the church. Lillie was a very active member of the church and continued to worship at Moncks Corner AME until she became very ill. Lillie was an early riser who had to have her morning cup of coffee along with her gospel music on "6", which was FM 106.1. She enjoyed the outdoors and quiet evenings sitting on the porch watching the sun go down. She was very talented with her hands, especially with sewing. She hand-sewed most of her clothes. Lillie also enjoyed growing a beautiful garden with fresh vegetables and flowers. She took pride in cooking and teaching her loved ones her "secret recipes". She also enjoyed helping others and spending time with her friends and loved ones. Lillie was blessed with seven children whom she loved and cared for dearly. Her memories will always be cherished by her children: Barbara Hamilton, George Davis, James Davis (Helen), Eddie Davis (Ida), Joan Pou, and Charles Steve Davis; her siblings, Samuel Rogers (Clara), Bertha Mallory of Florence, SC and David Rouse (Edna) of New York; sixteen grandchildren: Wallace and Pauline Fludd (Barbara); Lasonia Martin, Shawn and Tammy Haynes, Shaquanda Perry and Shanara Pou (George); Darien Davis (James); Jermaine McKelvey and LaShonda Davis (Eddie); Keisha, Kenta, Lettecia and Pauline Pou (Joan); Andrea and Steven Davis and AJ Rivers (Steve); a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lillie was preceded in death by a daughter, Willie Mae Davis; son-in-law, Isaiah Pou; and grandson, Isaac Lee Fludd.
