Obituary

Lillie Mae Brown Johnson, was born on August 3, 1932 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina to the late Moultrie Brown and Mary Ann (Tina) Gethers Brown. She passed away into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina. She attended the public schools of Berkeley County. At the age of eleven, Lillie became a member of Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served on the Usher Board for over 50 years and was a faithful member of the Sunday School. Lillie also served in the following capacities: a Stewardess, member of the Lay Organization and a member of the E.C. Jones Women's Missionary Society. On July 12, 1949, Lillie was joined in marriage to David F. Johnson. This union was blessed with three devoted children: Minnie Lee Gibbs, Rose Ann Prioleau and Donald Johnson. Her husband preceded her in death. She resided in Cherry Hill, South Carolina where she later earned a living as a housekeeper to support her children. Always serving as matriarch, Lillie represented womanhood with humility and strength. Her warm smile and kind spirit touched every life that she encountered. Lillie enjoyed expressing her love with kisses and a warm embrace. She always had an attitude of gratitude even for the smallest act of kindness towards her. Galatians 5:22 describes Lillie: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and faith." Lillie lived her life so that it reflected the love she had for God, her family and friends. Because of this wonderful love, conflict and confusion was not a part of her days. She strived for that "peace that surpasses all understanding." She had a smile that would brighten the darkest of days, and a laugh that could calm all fears. Lillie lived each day to the fullest, and because of this, when the Lord called her name, she could say, "I am ready." Those left to cherish her memory: her children, Minnie Lee (Clarence) Gibbs, Rose Ann Prioleau and Donald Johnson; siblings, Elouise Beverly of New York, NY, William (Mary) Ferguson of Atlanta, GA, Rhoda (Bobby) Cade of Moncks Corner, SC and Marguerite Ferguson of New York, NY; in-laws, Oneda Johnson and Wilbert (Pee Wee) Johnson; grandchildren, Tanysha (Robert) Wilson, Chadwick (Nicole) Gibbs, Heather Gibbs, Donnell (Shardae) Johnson, Amber (Antuan) Cromedy and Avery Prioleau; great-grandchildren, Trebor, Justice, Caden, Jordyn, Micah and Ethan. Lillie also held close to her heart, Darlene (Sherry) and Lauren Morrison, Margaret Scott, Martha Lee Davis, members of the Gethers-Taylor Family, members of the Campbell-Johnson Family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
