She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. James Session on April 6, 1942 and this union was blessed with four children. Her oldest child, James "Jimmy" Session, Jr. preceded her in death.
In 1946, Mabel and James moved to Gary, Indiana. After completing her formal education, she began her teaching career in the Public Schools of Gary, Indiana and taught for thirty years.
Mabel's Christian pilgrimage began at an early age. She was a member of Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church which is presently Moncks Corner African Methodist Episcopal Church. While living in Gary, she joined Greater St. James AME Church. There, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and as a member of the Usher Board. She served in many capacities such as: Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Class Leader, Women's Missionary Society, and the Golden Circle Auxiliary.
During her life, she was a Cub Scout Leader, Bridge Club Member, and a member of the Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority, Inc., Alpha Tau Chapter. She was an avid reader and sports enthusiast; she loved baseball, basketball, tennis and ice hockey.
