Obituary

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. - Psalm 116:15

Mrs. Maggie Lue Fordham, daughter of the late John and Mary Atkinson, was born October 13, 1913 in Alvin, South Carolina. She peacefully transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on May 31, 2020 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Maggie was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Paul Fordham, Sr. This union was blessed with eight children. Her husband, one daughter, Frances Matthews and grandson, Reginald Matthews preceded her in death.

Maggie was a faithful member of New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Jamestown, SC where she sang on the choir. Her favorite hymn was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". In her elder years, Maggie would join in singing gospels and hymns with her family; she sang the songs all the way through, never forgetting the words.

Maggie's hobbies were fishing, gardening and cooking. She loved growing her own food as well as beautiful flowers. She was an excellent cook and made the best homemade pound cakes ever.

Lue or "Gramps", as she was affectionately called by her loved ones, was a selfless, kind, warm-hearted woman. She would give her last to anyone in need. She especially loved children and would babysit the neighbor's children while they worked. She fed them if they were hungry, clothed them if they needed something to wear, or just give them a hug if they needed love. She never turned anyone away.

Maggie's all time favorite saying was, "Keep your hands in God's hand, and you will be alright." She will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit and her unwavering faith in God. She will sorely be missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her children, Rosalee Fordham, Mary Harper, Freddie Fordham, Paul Fordham, Jr., Robert (Cathy) Fordham of Baltimore, MD, Martha Daniels of Tampa, FL and Eugene Fordham of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Emma J. Witherspoon, Deloris Simmons-Roberts, David (Debra) Morrison, Anthony Morrison, Frances (George) McCord, Carolyn Fordham, David Daniels, Celeste Matthews, Joseph (Vivian) Matthews, Maurice Fordham, Barry Fordham, Cleveland Fordham, Terrence Hills, Patricia Fordham, Darrell Fordham, Terrell Fordham, Robert (Nicole) Fordham, Jr. and Freddie Fordham, Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
