Sister Maggie Morton Simmons, daughter of Henry and Carrie Morton, was born July 11, 1911 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, January 27, 2014. She attended public school in Berkeley County. Sister Maggie worked as a domestic worker for various families in Berkeley County. She enjoyed quilting and baking. Sister Simmons accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and served faithfully until her health began to decline. She was a member of the Senior Choir and Women's Missionary Society. She faithfully attended Sunday School. In 1928, Maggie was united in holy matrimony to Eugene Simmons who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, the following preceded her in death, four brothers: Phillip Morton, Frank Morton, David Morton and George Morton; three sisters: Lessie M. Simmons, Orrie Lee Simmons and Olive M. Willis; one son, James Simmons; and three grandchildren. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, four sons: Henry (Rodella) Simmons of Moncks Corner, SC, Curlin (Virginia) Simmons of Moncks Corner, SC, Clarence Simmons of Cheraw, SC and Envie (Anna Lee) Simmons of Moncks Corner, SC; one daughter, Rose (St. Clair) Jackson of Moncks Corner, SC; two daughters-in-law, Gertie Simmons and Sarah Simmons; a special friend, Christine Johnson; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
