On Monday, August 17th, 2009, Margaret Sargent was chosen to be with the Lord. Margaret, affectionately known as "Mag", was born June 18th, 1947 in South Santee, McClellanville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Viola and Joe Sargent. At an early age, Mag joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church under the pastoralship of the late Rev. J. S. Williams. She was a member of Class Number 17. Mag was educated in the public schools of Charleston County, SC and was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School, McClellanville, SC. Upon graduating from Lincoln, Mag relocated to Brooklyn, New York. She was employed by the City of New York in the Child Support Division for more than 26 years. She was a diligent and extremely hard worker. So much so that even while feeling ill on Monday morning, she was on her way to work, but the Lord called her home, as her work on earth was done. Mag had a very special and compassionate love for family. She truly enjoyed good times, as long as family members were present. She especially enjoyed the celebratory functions she attended with her family, in particular the family cruises. Mag loved her home town and would spend two weeks every Christmas and the Fourth of July in South Santee. You could count on her being there. She was planning to retire in a couple of years and return home. Mag was blessed with the birth of a son "Curt" on October 8, 1967. This was a very special day for Mag. "Curt" was very, very special to her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her one and only sibling, Edward "Chap" Sargent. She will forever be remembered and missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Mag leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son, Curtis Sargent; her companion of over 20 years, Calvin Washington; her two grandsons, Curtis Jr. and Devon Sargent; her aunts, Martha Woodyard, Mary Howard, Frances Reid, and Peniniah Reid; two uncles, Norman Reid and Thomas Scott; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
