IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie A.
Gadsden
May 13, 1918 – March 22, 2016
Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his saints.
- Psalm 116:15
Marie Addison Gadsden, the daughter of the late Deacon Ransom and Annie Sumpter Addison, was born May 13, 1918 in the Old Field section of St. Stephen, SC. She transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on March 22, 2016 at Lake Moultrie Nursing Home, St. Stephen, SC.
Marie received her education in the public schools of Berkeley County.
At an early age, Marie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at St. Stephen Baptist Church.
Marie was united in holy matrimony to Henry Thomas Gadsden on October 20, 1940. This union was blessed with five children; her husband and one son, Harold Robert Gadsden, preceded Marie in death.
After marriage, Marie became a member of Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church and later moved her membership to Calvary Reformed Episcopal Church. She was a faithful servant and was active in the church. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board, the Candle Light Pageant, the Pastor Aide and the Pulpit Aide. She took great pride and care in the preparation of the Holy Sacrament.
Marie was a nurturer. She was a caregiver for many children. She was a cheerful giver and shared whatever she had with others. Marie enjoyed quilting, growing her own vegetables and cooking. Her specialty included coconut pies, homemade double crusted apple pies, and biscuits.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Winnie Mae (Harry) Williams of Jamaica, NY, Henry "Sonny" James (Lavenia) Gadsden of Pineville, SC, Charles Nathaniel (Betty) Gadsden of Oxford, GA and Everett Jerome (Kathy) Gadsden of Pineville, SC; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Gadsden of Jersey City, NJ; siblings, Mattie A. Gethers of Moncks Corner, SC, Gyles Addison of New York, NY, Beaufort (Margaret) Addison of Holly Hill, SC and Dr. Oliver (Elizabeth) Addison of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Ida Mae Blandon of St. Stephen SC; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 21 great, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special Appreciation to Lavenia Gadsden who provided exceptional care to Marie during her good, as well as her bad days. Marie would often refer to Lavenia as a daughter, and her devotion will forever be appreciated.
