Mary Louise Capers was born September 30, 1939 in Dorchester County, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Albert and Rosalee Newton. She departed this life on January 20, 2022.
Mary received her education in the public schools of Dorchester County. She was employed by Berkeley and Dorchester County School Districts.
Mary was raised in a Christian home with God fearing parents. She was a member of New Grove Hall Christian Church of Summerville, SC.
Mary was a natural caregiver to so many and always took care of those around her. Her doors were always open to family and friends. She loved to cook and work on crossword puzzles. She would never leave the house without her lipstick and earrings. She would always say, "a woman should never leave the house without her lipstick".
Mary was joined in holy wedlock to Willis Capers on August 29, 1959. This union was blessed with three children.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Jerry (Elaine) Capers of Summerville, SC; two daughters, Devand (Lester) Mazyck of Moncks Corner, SC and Jacquelyn Capers of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Lewis (Elizabeth) Newton of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Leroy Newton of Summerville, SC, Gilbert (Roberta) Newton of St. George, SC, Elijah (Christine) Newton and Elias Newton of Atlanta, GA; four sisters: Peggy (Donald) Thompson of Augusta, GA, Deloris (Raymond) Goodwine of Ridgeville, SC, Phylis (Elijah) Williams and Joyce Greene of Summerville, SC; one brother-in-law, Malachi (Petunia) Capers of Summerville, SC; three sisters-in-law: Judy Sampson of Orangeburg, SC, Alveta Edwards of Landover, MD and Florence Capers of Summerville, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews. A special "Thank You" to James Poinsette who she always treated as a son.
