Mary B. Washington, the daughter of the late Samuel and Georgia Ann Benekin, was born on May 3, 1912 in the Murrell Section of Pineville, South Carolina. She was called home to rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Pineville, SC. Mary was blessed with long life. She lived to be 102 years old. She was the third of thirteen children. She received her education at Old Redeemer School. Mary was united in Holy Matrimony in 1931 to Samuel Washington. This union was blessed with five children. Her husband and three sons, Samuel Jr., Charles, and Willie (Earl) preceded her death. Five sisters and four brothers also preceded her in death. At an early age, Mary accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour and joined Redeemer R.E. Church. She remained a faithful member until her death. She was dedicated to her church. She served as President of the Senior Missionary and as a Pulpit Aide for many years. She was also a member of St. John Chapter #213, Order of the Eastern Star. Mary's hobbies were: sewing, quilting, working in her flower garden and arts & crafts. She could make something beautiful out of anything. Mary was a loving and giving person. She was a surrogate mother to many. She is gone and will be missed by all. She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Agnes G. Washington and Ernestine (Jerome) Collins both of Pineville, SC and Shirley (Johnnie) McHoney of Bronx, NY; one grandson raised in the home, Maurice (Felicia) Washington of St. Stephen, SC; one daughter-in-law, Mary Louise Washington; three sisters, Rosalee Benekin of Charleston, SC, Alberta Chandler of Miami, FL and Charlotte Wigfall of Pineville, SC; twenty-five grandchildren; fifty-four great-grandchildren; twenty great, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
