Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; " - II Timothy 4:6-7 Mother Maude Jervey Paige "Sister" , daughter of the late Louis and Susie Jervey, was born on September 16, 1922 in Bonneau, South Carolina. She departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at her residence. She received her education in the Berkeley County Public School System. She was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress for many years. Mother Maude accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member of St. Peters African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served diligently as a Choir Member, President of the Stewardess Board and was a Steward-Emeritus. She was also recognized as being a "Mother" of the church. Mother Maude was joined in Holy Matrimony to Chester Paige. Mother Maude was a selfless, generous woman who always put the needs of family and friends first. Without hesitation, she never failed to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement and wisdom. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She had a kind and humble spirit. Although soft-spoken, Mother Maude ruled with loving authority. Known for her keen sense of fashion, Mother Maude dressed very well and tastefully accessorized every ensemble. As a virtuous woman, Mother Maude watched over the affairs of her household and made sure that her home was immaculate and things were neat, tidy and in order. She was preceded in death by her husband and four children, Chester Paige, Jr., Richard Allen Paige, Shirley Jean Paige and Eddie James Paige. Those left to cherish her fond memories are: a daughter, Mary Sue Seaward (Elder Danzie) of Bowie, MD; four sons, Leroy Paige (Jean), Wilson Paige (Virginia) and Charles Paige all of Bonneau, SC and Michael Paige (Bettie) of Washington, DC; a granddaughter she reared as her own, Isreal (Rodney) Kinlaw of Goose Creek, SC; six brothers, Reuben Jervey (Bettie), Lewis Jervey (Ruth), Dan Jervey, Esau Jervey (Freda) and Jacob Jervey all of Dover, DE and Joe Govan (Vera) of Bonneau, SC; thirty-three grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; a host of special nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
