Obituary

Maurice Alexander Miller was born on February 14, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. He transitioned from this earth to eternal life with the Lord peacefully in his sleep on November 7, 2014 in Charleston, South Carolina. Maurice was born to Ellen Isabelle Daway and Archer Alexander Miller. Known to all affectionately as "Marty", he grew up in a loving home that was filled with his grandmother, mother, father and seven siblings in a brownstone in Brooklyn, NY. He attended elementary, middle school, and Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. He then joined the Job Corps in Houston, Texas where he studied cooking. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 where he met and married his wife Jasmine who was killed suddenly in a car accident in Germany where they were both stationed. Shortly afterwards, he met and fell in love with Jacquelyn Simmons. From this union, he was blessed with his only child, a daughter Timicia Simmons. After serving his country ten years in the Army, Marty received an Honorable Discharge. He was employed with the New York Telephone Company as a cook. After a few years, he moved on to work for the New York Transit Authority driving forklifts. After relocating to the suburbs, he was employed by Jameco Tires where he worked until his stroke in 1992. Marty later relocated to South Carolina and became a member of The Church House of Ministries Christian Church where he served faithfully until his passing. He truly enjoyed worshipping with his church family and was ready every Sunday between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. for church. Marty enjoyed life, music, and playing dominoes with his buddy Joe Blue. He was our HERO. He did more with his one arm and leg than the average person did with two good ones. He was independent, always helpful and full of life and so much laughter. "Saboo", when you get there, slow down; you know those ears are like wings because you know "Nay Nay" cannot walk fast, so when she falls, and she will, don't laugh, just help her up (smile). You are leaving a legacy never to be forgotten. You were the last one standing my brother, and your family has always held on to you too tight sometimes, but it was always about love for you. He is predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Archer Miller; siblings, Lennaire Miller, Renee Reid, Evelyn Rose Armond, John Miller and Joseph Miller; and sister-in-law, Norma Heron. He leaves to mourn: his daughter, Timicia Simmons; grandson, Tyrell; granddaughter, Angel; and great-grandson, Dion; sisters, Zandra Miller and JoAnn Miller; nieces: Tonya, Shikera, Sadari, Leinor, Teela, LaKeisha, Qwasia, India and Rahasia; special great niece, Kamisha; and his Bubbles, Tiffany; nephews: Lennaire, Shamel, LaQuan, Davone, Tyrell, Jovon, Reginald, Gentle, Bobby, Phoenix, and Deavante; our mirrors, "The Trotmans"; brother-in-law, Pedro (Pete) Flores; and a host of other great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
