Melissa Antonette Ellington-Myers , daughter of Shirley Gourdine Ellington and the late Johnny Lee Ellington, was born on September 8, 1969 in Pineville, SC. She was called home on December 24, 2020.
Melissa was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, graduating in the Class of 1987 from St. Stephen High School where she played the clarinet in the band. She was employed in several venues. She served as a bus driver for over 12 years in the Berkeley County School District. Melissa demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit and was the owner of Missy's Creations, a caterer, a partner in Ann's ABC Day Care and was a certified cosmetologist.
Melissa was a member of St. Mark Holiness Church, Pineville, SC.
Melissa was united in Holy Matrimony to Kenneth Myers on December 29, 2012.
Melissa was gifted with creativity and enjoyed decorating. Her hobbies included cooking, traveling and shopping. She loved horses and was a member and secretary of K & M Riders Horse Club. She also loved spending time with children in the community.
Melissa brought joy to everyone who she encountered. She especially was known for her favorite quotes: "I got you.", "You in my business?" and "Let's ride." She considered all of her cousins as her siblings. She will be remembered for her kindness, her willingness to help others and her creativity.
Melissa leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Kenneth Myers of Goose Creek, SC; children, Carlton (Yvette) Ellington of Columbia, SC, Terrell (Diamond) Ellington, Keion Mitchell both of Pineville, SC, Kamilah (James) Ford of Moncks Corner, SC, Kenneth (Jamila) Myers, Jr. of Summerville, SC and Omesha Miller of Moncks Corner, SC; her mother, Shirley Ellington; grandchildren, Joshalyn Ellington, Dominque Morrison Ellington, Haidyn Smalls, Nevaeh Ellington Smalls, Terrell Ellington, Jr., Dominic Ellington all of Pineville, SC, Kennah Myers, Kaiden Myers and Jamison Myers all of Summerville, SC; siblings, Katina (Hayden) Hosford of Charlotte, NC, Tyessia (John) Grear of Willingboro, NJ, Marie (Lee) Brunson of Andrews, SC, Anthony Levy of Moncks Corner, Shaylnn Mitchell of Titusville, FL, Rev. Roger (Tanya) Rembert of Pineville, SC and Joann (Rodney) Bellamy of St. Stephen, SC; aunts, Bernice Smalls of Willingboro, NJ, Angela Gourdine of Bayonne, NJ, Ethel (James) Jones of Ridgeland, SC; uncles, Dan Frazier, Jimmie Frazier both of Bishopville, SC, Freeman Ellington of Hardeville, SC, Jethro (Barbara Jean) Gourdine, Rev. Amos (Bessie) Gourdine, Warren Waring all of Pineville, SC; god sister, Cicely Bland; mother-in-law, Shirley (Carl-Deceased) Simmons; Rogerstine "Lester" Middleton who was like a father; special friends, Rondell Sabb and Diane (Chris) Hazlett; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Lee Ellington and her son, Corey J. Ellington.
Viewing will be held Thursday, December 31, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Gethers St. Stephen Chapel, 221 Church Road, St. Stephen, SC. Graveside Service will be held Friday, January 1, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Gourdine Cemetery, Pineville, SC.
