Melvin Copeland, Sr., the son of the late Joseph Copeland, Sr. and Sylvia Fennick Copeland, was born on April 28, 1928 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on April 28, 2015 at University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia. Melvin was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. He was a member of Moncks Corner A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as an Usher. He was also a member of the Steward Board and was a member of the Church School. Melvin was united in Holy Wedlock to Geneva Reid Copeland on January 11, 1946. This union was blessed with four children. Geneva preceded him in death. Melvin served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very proficient in the dry cleaning business and at one time he owned a combined dry cleaning company and flower shop. Melvin had a very pleasing personality. His warm smile and caring attitude will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Melvin Copeland, Jr. (Marquita) of Lake Charles, LA, Ulysses Garrett Copeland of Moncks Corner, SC, Ethel C. Ellington (Anthony) of Evans, GA and Aaron B. Copeland (Nikki) of North Charleston, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah L. Copeland, Viola Rogers, Verdelle Williams (Brister), George Reid (Rev. Lillie Mae) all of Moncks Corner, SC, Clarence Reid (Carolyn) of Columbia, SC, Leroy Haynes, Sr., of Moncks Corner, SC and Fred S. Reid of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Evette Yeadon (Ervin), Jeffrey President (Dr. Aisha), Ilona Simmons (Otis), Rev. Garrett Copeland (Tiffany), Anthony T. Ellington (Casey), Steven A. Ellington, Aaron B. Copeland, Jr., Ashton B. Copeland, Shaundra Williams, Pierre Weathers, Vanderlyn Johnson and Carlethia Powell; several great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
