For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:" 2 Timothy 4:6-7 On January 3, 1956, God spoke a word of life, and Millie Mae Miller was born unto loving and devoted parents, the late Mr. OB Miller and Mrs. Janie Pearl Miller. Millie was reared in a very caring, loving and giving home with her siblings. Millie's childhood was filled with wonderful memories of family and friends. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined St. James A.M.E. Church which later became Moncks Corner A.M.E. Church. Although Millie did not make a lot of noise about her relationship with God, it was evident because she demonstrated it by never meeting a stranger who did not become a friend. Millie received her education in the Berkeley County School System and was a graduate of Berkeley High School, Class of 1976. She worked for over twenty years in the Medical Care Systems. "Big Mama" , as Millie was affectionately called by her family and those who were close to her, was a great culinary chef. She was famous for her stewed chicken, baked turkey with that delicious dressing, and not to mention her mouth watering cakes, pies, and melt on your tongue bread puddings. She was the "Paula Deen" of Moncks Corner. Millie had many battles with her health. She was a fighter, and a person of strong faith. It was her faith in God that gave her the strength to face each challenge life brought. On Wednesday, April 20, 2011, as family members sat beside her bed, a soft breeze flowed into the room, all was calm, it was at that time the voice of an angel whispered and said, "Weary one, come home", and Millie quietly bid this world farewell. Millie was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Cyle M. Smith and Maxine Miller. A host of witnesses and loved ones who will cherish her precious memories are her devoted and loving children: a daughter, Sharice M. (Rodney) Gadsden and her faithful son, Korey Miller; one loving and devoted granddaughter of the home, Shakeria Holman and two dedicated grandsons, K'lan R. Johnson and Rakeem Johnson; four sisters, Carolyn M. Nelson, Reverend Catherine M. Washington, Beatrice M. (Paul) Johnson and Angienet M. (Roger) McFadden; three brothers, OB Jr. (Debbie) Miller, Kizer (Alice) Miller and Willie F. (Pamie) Miller; two aunts, Deana Pollit and Geraldine Robbins; a loving and dedicated niece, Gretta Miller; two "special little girls", Maurianna Ravenell and Kendall McFadden; three close friends, Laura Hayward, Angela Snider and Sylvia Bellamy; a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; many friends and other relatives.
