Obituary

Minister James Oscar Rorie was born on December 25, 1941 in Holly Hill, South Carolina, a son of the late George and Alma Haynes Rorie. James was a 1961 graduate of Berkeley Training High School. James was employed as a Bus Driver for Greyhound Lines before becoming an independent truck driver. He also served in the United States Army. It was in his parents' home that James experienced love and was nurtured in the faith. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church, where he once served as a Trustee and a Deacon. He later answered the call to the Ministry. He was a faithful and dedicated member until his health began to decline. James was united in holy matrimony on August 15, 1964 to the former Retha Baylor, who he affectionately called "Cheryl". This union was blessed with four children. James was active in the community. He was a member of the Town of Moncks Corner Planning Committee. He loved his family and provided his support whenever and wherever it was needed. The family, church and community have lost a great friend. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Retha B. Rorie of Moncks Corner, SC; children, Alma Rorie of Moncks Corner, SC Corey (Dreame) Rorie of Summerville, SC, Cynde Rorie of Moncks Corner, SC and Jamile Rorie of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren: Jordan, Jabari, Aniyah and Trinity; siblings, Odessa Mahoney of Moncks Corner, SC and John (Clarisse) Rorie of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Charles (Virginia) Baylor of Chesapeake, VA; four sisters-in-law, Vivian Baylor of Moncks Corner, SC, Mary Holm of Charlotte, NC, Judy (Mack) Breeden of Aurora, CO and Ruth Reid of Bronx, NY; one aunt, Mabel Session of Moncks Corner, SC; one uncle, Joseph C.
