Mother Maggie
Borden
August 15, 1920 – February 21, 2023
Maggie Borden was born on August 15, 1920, a daughter of the late James and Virginia Borden. She was educated in the Berkeley County school system.
Maggie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age while living and serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ faithfully. Maggie joined Irving Chapel AME Church and served in several ministries, where she was honorably bequeathed as the Mother of the Church.
In the early 1940's, Maggie journeyed to New York in search of career opportunities. She was successfully employed for many years while a resident of New York. During this time, Maggie enjoyed spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. Upon retirement, Maggie returned to her home roots of South Carolina where she remained until her transition. During her retirement, Maggie enjoyed cooking for family and friends, fishing and sewing. Maggie also thoroughly enjoyed caring for her plants and decorating for family gatherings.
Maggie was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Janis Gadsden and Sarah Jones. Additionally, Maggie's late siblings include: Samuel Borden, Harris Borden, Albertha Pear (Sam), Benjamin Borden, Viola Dunmore (Paul), and Geneva Borden.
Those left to cherish Maggie's memory are: her son, Mr. Alphonso Borden and his wife Frances of Englewood, NJ; brother, Mr. James Borden of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cleo "Bell" Borden, Mrs. Loretta Lillian Borden and Mrs. Iola Borden; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
The family requests that no flowers be sent as they honor the wishes of Mother Maggie Borden.
A Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Greater Emanuel AME Church, 1174 Doctor Evans Road, Moncks Corner, SC. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery, 1010 Cooper Store Road, Moncks Corner, SC. Viewing will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Face masks are required.
