Obituary

Victoria Brightman Dixon was born to Frank and Nancy Green Brightman, Sr. on Sunday, December 13, 1925 at Richmond Plantation, Berkeley County, South Carolina. She was the oldest of six children - three girls and three boys. Her parents and three siblings - Frank Brightman, Jr., Margaret B. Simmons, and Prophetess Florence O. Fludd - preceded her in death.

Victoria's early childhood education and Christian experience began at Irving Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Cordesville, SC. After relocating, her Christian development continued at Taveaux United Methodist Church, Cordesville, SC.

In September 1947, Victoria married her childhood sweetheart, Edward Dixon, Jr. and became a member of St. James Reformed Episcopal Church, Cordesville, SC.

After Edward's passing in July 1963, Victoria became Sunday School Superintendent of St. James R.E. Church. Under her leadership, the church received numerous recognitions, including Sunday School of the Year multiple times. She was unanimously elected the first woman president of the Sunday School Convention of the Reformed Episcopal Churches, Southern Jurisdiction under the late Bishop H.S. Jerdan. During a vestry meeting, plans were discussed to purchase land for a new church. Victoria suggested that the board approach Mepkin Abbey to purchase land. The board told her that it would not work; however, they approached the Monastery to appease her. At the next meeting, they reported that the Monastery wouldn't sell - as they initially stated. However, they would donate land - three acres. The church rejoiced with one of her favorite songs - "Didn't I Tell You It Would Be Alright."

Victoria was a woman of faith and courage. During revival services in September 1972, God moved upon her in a word of prophecy that a church should be built called Truth Tabernacle. In obedience to God, she moved her membership to Macedonia Firstborn Holiness Church, Moncks Corner, SC, under the watch care of Pastor Ernest Gethers until Truth Tabernacle began in February 1975.

Victoria was a "Dorcas" for the community. She made clothing for women, including an entire wedding party and suits for men. She was a domestic worker for several families in Berkeley County. She was a prayer warrior and led many souls to Jesus.

As the Shepherd Mother at Truth Tabernacle, she, at last count, had read her Bible - cover to cover - forty-two times! Her favorite verse was Psalm 37:25: "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread."

We celebrate our mother's transition to eternal life.

Victoria's legacy lives on in her children: Harristine (John) Wigfall of Brooklyn, NY, Emily D. Thomas of Moncks Corner, SC, Pastor Henry E. (Lady Prince E.) Dixon of Cordesville, SC, MSG Edmond A. (Ann P.) Dixon, USAF-Ret., Retired Police Detective, College of Charleston of North Charleston, SC, Richard L. (Martha P.) Dixon of Moncks Corner, SC and Marie E.
