Obituary

In 1925, at the dawn of the twentieth century, a little baby girl, Lillie Mae Dingle, made her debut on the stage of life and remained on the stage of life for 99 years.  Her godly life ended on Monday, October 7, 2024 when she was taken from us and entered a city whose builder and patron is God.

Mother Lillie Mae Jasper was born on April 3, 1925, to the late Henry Dingle Sr. and Mattie Pettigrew Dingle of McBeth, South Carolina, now known as Santee Circle. Following the death of her mother at the age of six, her father later married Florine Middleton.  Florine Dingle and Lillie Mae Dingle formed a bond of love that surpassed a biological mother and daughter. She grew up with many adopted siblings.

Mother Lillie Mae Jasper received her formal education in the public schools in Berkeley County and furthered her education at Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC, Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC and other forms of education.  She attended classes at the Institute of Religion in Pineville, SC under three instructors: Reverend W.C. Walker, Reverend George Windley and Reverend Ezekiel Hampton.

Mother Jasper started her work experience at home growing up working on a farm as well as in the family grocery store.  She later began her career as a seamstress at William Heller Inc., a teaching assistant in the Berkeley County School District and a helper at the Berkeley County Senior Citizens.

Mother Jasper married the late James Jasper Sr. and was the mother of Captain James Jasper Jr. who preceded her in death.

Her faith in God was the driving force in her life.  She was a lifelong member of Anderson Baptist Church where she was a true soldier for the Lord and served in a multitude of capacities. These included a Sunday School teacher, President of the Junior Choir, President of the Senior Choir, Program Committee Chairperson, member of the Harvest Day Committee, member of the Fellowship Tea, member of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee, Director of the Bible Vacation School for twenty-five years, Anderson Baptist Treasurer for over fifty years, and member of the Missionary Board.  She continued her Christian walk outside of Anderson Baptist Church where she served in the Christian Aid Society, the Antioch Baptist Sunday School Convention as Secretary for over fifty years, a secretary on the Association Choir and later the President/Director for thirty-five years.  She served as a committee member for the "Queen for a Year" program for forty-four years. She was a committee member for the annual Emancipation Proclamation program for forty-two years.

Mother Jasper was also known as Anderson Baptist's own singing celebrity, writing music and recording two CDs with the group "Deacon Richardson and the Chosen Ones" under SOUP, Inc.  Singing was her passion.  She loved the Lord with all her heart and loved to sing praises that glorified the Lord and blessed His Holy Name, for He is worthy to be praised.

Mother Jasper was not only a soldier for the Lord but also a soldier for her community where she was active in many community and local affairs, including the Santee Circle Park and Playground Committee, the Santee Circle Women's Fire Auxiliary, the Berkeley Electric Cooperative Ladies Auxiliary, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Berkeley County Homemakers Auxiliary, and 4-H Leader.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening (which includes growing vegetables and flowers) and baking.

Many of Mother Jasper's beloved family members preceded her in death:  her parents, Henry Dingle, Mattie Dingle, Florine Dingle; spouse, James Jasper, Jr.; adopted siblings, Ernest Dingle, Leon Green, Leroy Singelton Sr. and Ella Mae Owens (lifelong friend).

She leaves to cherish her memories her granddaughter, Jeneane Jasper (Augusta, GA); adopted brothers, Daniel Rivers (Moncks Corner, SC) and Leroy Singleton, Jr. (Atlanta, GA); daughter-in-law, Betty Jasper (Augusta, GA); sister-in-law, Sabris Dingle (Moncks Corner, SC) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
