Mother Maggie President Lane crossed over to her heavenly home peacefully on February 13, 2017, at her home in Summerville, South Carolina, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born May 19, 1919 in Moncks Corner, SC, a daughter of the late Walter President and Eloise Legree President. According to a midwife, her correct year of birth was 1916, but was not recorded accurately during that time.
Maggie was united in marriage to Elder Otis Lane, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2003. She was the mother of eight children (seven sons and one daughter), one adopted daughter and three spiritual children.
Mother Maggie Lane was a member of the Ministries of Truth Tabernacle, Cordesville, SC. She was the oldest Mother of the church right up to her passing. Maggie always listened to people, never left anyone out and had a real passion for serving her community. This translated into years of volunteer service, including the Mother Board, the Pastoral Board, and assisting the Prayer Warriors for Noon Day Prayer at Truth Tabernacle.
Maggie was well known and respected in the local community. She loved children and was well known for taking care of children in the community. She was a very caring and compassionate person, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Mother Lane had a true appreciation for the outdoors and loved to wake up early. She would sit with her Bible at the table or at the end of her bed and mark special scriptures to share with her loved ones. She loved to watch the sunrise and make the most of each day. It was the simple things around her in life that she never took for granted. She commented daily how fortunate and thankful she was and how wonderful life was. Above all, Maggie was absolutely devoted to her sons and family. She was a mother who always involved herself in every detail of her sons' lives, and she supported, respected and loved her family unconditionally. She was a woman of strong faith. She believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that await after her passing.
She is survived by: her two sons, Minister Kenneth R. Lane, Sr. (Pastor Mary Ann) and Minister Andrew Lane (Sonya) both of Summerville, SC; three daughters-in-law, Brenda Morgan (Neville) of Summerville, SC, Mary Richardson Lane of Moncks Corner, SC and Helen President of Queens, NY; one son-in-law, Rev. Bobby Heyward of New York; adopted spiritual daughter, First Lady Felicia Walker (Rev. Henry) of Summerville, SC; three adopted spiritual children, Craig, Bonnie and Diane Robinson of Moncks Corner, SC; one brother-in-law, Robert Lane of Brooklyn, NY; a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; first cousins, Natalie, Nancy, and Doris Legree of Moncks Corner, SC, and Nancy Legree of Jamaica, NY; nieces, nephews, and close friends.
