On November 25, 1939 in Berkeley County, South Carolina, Riley and Serena Smalls were blessed with a son, Namon Harry Smalls. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at his residence. Namon attended the public schools of Berkeley County. He later moved to New York City for many years. He returned to South Carolina in 1980. He worked for Alumax until he retired. Namon gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Anderson Baptist Church. He attended church regularly until his health failed. On January 28, 1981, Namon Smalls was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Mae Rivers, who preceded him in death. Namon was also preceded in death by six siblings: Jannie, Julius, Aaron, Riley, Jefferson and Eddie Smalls. Those left to mourn his passing: Dorothy Rhodes Smalls; his son, Harry Smalls, Jr. of the home; children he considered his own, Bernard (Sheila) Rivers of Moncks Corner, SC, Jerome Rivers of New York, Veronica (Ronald) Richmond of Columbia, SC and Anthony Rivers of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Tennie Brown; one brother, Leroy Smalls both of Moncks Corner, SC; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two godchildren, Mark Reaves and Konisha King; beloved friends, William Gregg and Ben Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
