IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norveree Matthews
Vice
June 22, 1936 – March 15, 2020
To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2a
A TIME TO BE BORN
Norveree Matthews Vice was born on June 22, 1936 in Savannah Creek, SC, a daughter of the late Johnnie and Annie Calvin Matthews.
A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER HEAVEN
Nerve, also affectionately known as Mother, Grandma Nerve, and Ms. Nerve, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at New Emanuel AME Church.
She attended New Emanuel her entire life until her health began to fail. She served in the following capacities: President of the Stewardess Board, Steward, Advisor to the Sunbeam Choir, member of the Senior Choir, and Mother of the Church. She especially enjoyed Church School and Bible Study.
Nerve received her education at Jamestown Elementary School, and began working at an early age. She worked for many small cafes in Moncks Corner before beginning her 47 year career at Santee River Wool in Jamestown, SC. She received numerous awards for her work ethics and dedication to the company.
A TIME TO LOVE
On June 6, 1964, Norveree was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Winford "Fred" Vice. This union was blessed with seven children. Nerve enjoyed having her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around. She loved cooking and baking, especially during the holidays. Her sweet potato pies and jelly stack cakes were a family favorite. She was also a skilled seamstress and made clothing for the entire family. She took pride in taking care of her home, and she was the caregiver for her siblings. She enjoyed watching Westerns and listening to the "Power Prayer Line." Her favorite scripture was Acts 3:1-10.
A TIME TO DIE
On March 15, 2020, Nerve answered the call from the Lord: "Well done, thy good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things; enter into the joy of thy Lord" and peacefully transitioned into eternal life. She truly embodied 2 Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Though her mind was affected by Alzheimer's, her spirit remained sound and anchored in faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford "Fred" Vice; a grandson, Jerel Matthews, Jr.; six brothers and three sisters.
A TIME TO MOURN
Nerve leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Rev. Jerel O. Matthews, Sr. and Kenneth Vice both of Savannah Creek, SC; five daughters, Almena Wright (Joseph) of Bonneau, SC, Vivian Matthews Wright of Charleston, SC, Inetha White (Harold) of Moncks Corner, SC, Angelene Spann (Herman) of Cross, SC and Laterica Vice of Savannah Creek, SC; one sister, Annie Matthews of Moncks Corner, SC; 14 grandchildren: Joey Wright (Naomi), Shunita Wright, Lakeisha Wright, Dr. Sharee Wright (Sean Frazier), Jermaine Wright (Crystal), Jovan Wright (Kaleisha Pollins), Derel Matthews (Natalie), Harold White, III, Felicia White, Christopher White, Jonathan Spann, Jeremy Spann, Kimberly Vice and Isaac Johnson; granddaughter-in-law, Karolyne Matthews; 22 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Dorothy Alston; four sisters-in-law, Francine Kelly, Fannie Mae Hamilton, Rezenika Witherspoon and Dorothy Core; one brother-in-law, Archie Hamilton (Ginetta); nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and the caring and loving staff of Lake Moultrie Nursing Home.
