Oliver W. Holmes, Sr., son of the late Willie Holmes and Rosa Green Holmes, was born August 3, 1933 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his residence. Oliver received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC. On June 25, 1955, Oliver was united in holy matrimony to Bernice Brown. This union was blessed with nine children. Oliver, affectionately called "Pop" by those in the community, touched many lives. He loved to fish and to hunt. He will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Bernice Holmes of Moncks Corner, SC; children: Jessie "JC" and Linda Brown of Summerville, SC, Ricky and Jackie Holmes of Oxford, England, Oliver Jr. and Janie Holmes, Bobby and Elizabeth Holmes, Susan Johnson, John Holmes, Paul and Dorothy Holmes, Helen and Esau Branch, and Ruth Holmes all of Moncks Corner, SC; 39 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur and Dorothy Holmes of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
