Obituary

Patricia Ann "Doodie" Lane, daughter of the late Elizabeth Ravenell and the late Elder Benjamin Jefferson, was born on March 14, 1949 in Berkeley County, SC. On July 6, 2021 she gained her wings and went home to rest with the Lord.

Patricia grew up in a small community known as "The Ravenell Hill" off Highway 311 in Cross, SC where she obtained her unique nickname of "Doodie" given to her by her late grandfather Harry Ravenell, Sr. This nickname took root and because of her kind heart and love shown to others, she became Doodie/Aunt Doodie to so many.

Patricia attended the community school, "Central High" where she obtained her high school diploma in the year of 1967. Patricia, being the determined hard worker she was, did not stop there. She continued to follow her dreams by attending what was simply known back then as a cooking school in Charleston, SC. The knowledge and skills she learned paid off for her when she became the lead cook at the Berkeley Restaurant in Moncks Corner, SC.

While following her dreams and mastering her craft, Patricia met, fell in love and married the love of her life Levern (Lee) Lane. They loved and enjoyed life together until he gained his wings on April 7, 1997.

At an early age, Patricia joined and became a member of Poplar Hill Christian Church (DOC) where she was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Kitchen Committee, Usher Department and anywhere else the church needed her to be. Patricia served faithfully until her health failed because she loved her church family and she loved serving and praising the Lord.

After thirty plus years, Patricia retired from the Berkeley Restaurant in 1988. She retired on paper, but not in life! Patricia took on the tasks of being a caregiver for the sick, driver for the elderly, babysitter, caterer, housekeeper, among many other tasks she took on. She never stopped, she just loved people and loved helping others in general. She never met a stranger.

Patricia loved to shop and give gifts to anybody she came in contact with even if only for a brief moment. At church she was known as the gift giving, candy lady to the kids, and they just loved and adored her.

Patricia was a loving, kind, strong, big hearted lady who never complained, even as her health began to decline. Patricia always ended all of her conversations with "I LOVE YOU", whether it was in person, on the telephone or through a letter. There is so much more that can be said about the life of this amazing woman - Patricia/Doodie/Aunt Doodie/Candy Lady, but anyone who ever came in contact with Patricia, knows firsthand the type of person she was and the type of life she lived.

Those among so many left to cherish her fond memories are: her  sons, Nathaniel (Mary Sue) Ravenell, Sr. of Holly Hill, SC and Minister Earl W. Ravenell of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren, Donaries Perry (special friend, Felicia) of Summerville, SC, Eyvette (Jernois) Jenkins, Nathaniel Ravenell, Jr. (special friend, Keyariah) and Felicia Ravenell all of Holly Hill, SC; two great grandchildren, Tiona Perry of Summerville, SC and Jaleah Jenkins of Holly Hill, SC; four brothers and seven sisters, Harry Lee (Minister Louise) Ravenell, Sr., Stanley Ravenell, James (Sabrina) Ravenell all of Ridgeville, SC, Augustine (Maning) Watson, Willie Mae Ravenell (special friend Levi) of Cross, SC, Jeanne Ravenell (special friend Alex) of Moncks Corner, SC, Barbara Jean (Bishop Melvin) Brown, Mary Ann (Clyde) Smith, Jr., Isaac (Juanita) Jefferson all of Cross, SC, Mirinda (Anthony) Kingston of Fairburn, GA, Celestine (Michael) Ravenell of Pineville, SC; three aunts, Anna Lee, Mary Hester and Ethel Ravenell all of Cross, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
