Reid
February 23, 1951 – March 30, 2020
Paula Reid, 69 years of age, passed peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2020, at Trident Regional Medical Center, North Charleston, SC. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family, church members, friends and many supporters, carried her through these last few months of sickness.
Paula, the youngest of five children, was the loving daughter of Mrs. Edith Pangburn and Mr. Thomas Pangburn. She was born on February 23, 1951, in Rome, NY.
After attending High School at Rome Free Academy, Paula attended and completed training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She accepted a position at Rose Hospital, located in Rome, NY. While working there, she met the love of her life, Archie Lee Reid, in 1973, when he was stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base. Four years later, on September 16, 1977, in Rome, NY, the couple was joined in holy matrimony.
Married for 42 years, and living the life of a military family, Paula and Archie raised their four (4) children in Rome, NY, North Charleston, SC and eventually settled in Goose Creek, SC. She was a housewife for many years but did accept a position at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in North Charleston, in 1992, and retired on Disability in 2009.
Paula began her spiritual journey as a Catholic, while growing up in Rome, NY. After moving to South Carolina, in 1981, she was witnessed to by her husband's dear cousin and accepted the Word, repented, was baptized and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost in October 1982. Paula was fellowshipped into the body of Christ at the Moncks Corner Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Apostolic Faith, Inc., where she was a dedicated and dependable member in good standing. She served and/or was a member in the following: Local, Diocese and International Sunday School Department; Local Sunday School Department Secretary/Treasurer 1987-2007 and 2018 to present; Local, Diocese and International Ministers and Deacon Wives Guild, 1999 to present; Local, Diocese and International Women Council, Local ABYPU 1988 to present; Local Sanctuary Choir 1990 to present. Paula gave of her time, artistic skills and money to ensure that the local Sunday School Department had enjoyable and pleasant experiences during sponsored activities. She worked with the SCPD Sunday School Banner Committee since 1996 to present. Paula was known as the lead singer on the local Sanctuary Choir for the following songs: "Uncloudy Day", "Midnight Cry", "Order My Steps" (co-leader), "Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper" and "He's Worthy".
Paula loved fishing, shopping and arts and crafts. She loved to purchase and wear beautiful lapel pins when she got dressed for church of other functions. She was known for her ease in frequent conversation with others, even total strangers. Some may be surprised to learn that she was shy as a youth. Throughout her life she maintained a simple demeanor that won the trust and heart of many young people, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith.
Those who remain to cherish her memories: her devoted and loving husband, Deacon Archie L. Reid; her son, Martin A. Reid (his companion, Nicole) and daughter, Shauntel Reid Moultrie (her husband, Jeremy); five (5) grandchildren, Macai, Mikell, Melody, Mya and Sofia; siblings, Mark (Kathy) Pangburn, Peter (Gloria) Pangburn, Robert (Ann) Pangburn and Margaret "Peggy" P.
