Percy Gethers was born on December 3, 1938, in Bonneau, South Carolina, a son of the late Henry and Eliza Marion Gethers. He departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. Percy was a member of the New Haven Police Department for 28 years, and retired from the State of Connecticut Public Defenders Office. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Knickerbockers Golf Club of New Haven, CT. Percy is survived by his wife Mozelle Gethers; four daughters, Altricia Gethers (West Haven, CT), Cynthia Gethers (Hampton, VA), Priscilla Gethers (Hamden, CT), and Lisa (Melvin Jr.) Wells (Hamden, CT). Percy also leaves behind three sisters, Annie Canty (Bonneau, SC), Jannie (James) Thompson (Mt Holly, NJ), and Rebecca Gethers (New Haven, CT); three brothers, John W. Gethers (Long Island, NY), Benjamin Gethers (New Haven, CT), and Christopher Gethers (Rochelle) Yorktown, VA; four grandchildren, Kimberly Brooks, Domoinique Pascascio, Alexandria Wells, and Melvin I. Wells, III; four brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
