Obituary

Queen Elizabeth Grant, daughter of the late Lillian and Morris Norman Jefferson, was born on April 30, 1944 in Berkeley County, S.C. She was the second oldest of six children. She grew up happily in a small, but loving household with her mother, siblings, her uncle Rannie, her aunt Elizabeth and eleven cousins. While growing up, she attended and graduated from Russellville High School, St. Stephen, S.C. where she was a member of the basketball team. Queen was baptized at St. Matthew Baptist Church. She relocated to New York City in 1963, and there she attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx. While living in New York City, she met and married Edward Grant, Jr. Two sons, Marcus and Maurice, were born to this union. Queen always wanted the best for her sons. Queen was on staff at New York Presbyterian Hospital for over 33 years. She was first a Medical Record Clerk, and then, upon retirement of her colleague and friend, she was promoted to Medical Record Supervisor. While working at the hospital, she made life-long friends and form beautiful relationships. Queen enjoyed working with everyone and her infectious laugh warmed everyone's heart. Queen departed this world on Saturday, July 26, 2008. She joined her parents and sibling, Conway Jefferson. Queen leaves behind a devoted and loving husband, Edward "John" Grant, with whom she just celebrated her 40th Wedding Anniversary; and two sons, Marcus E. Grant and Maurice E. Grant. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory: two sisters, Susie Grant and Sheryll Quinn; two brothers, Kenneth Arthur Jefferson and Jackie Jefferson; a mother-in-law, Mattie Grant; two sisters-in-law, Roberta (Dee) Watson and Ella Mae Cooper; one brother-in-klaw, Thomas (Sheila) Grant; eight nephews, ten nieces, seven great-nephews and fifteen great-nieces; uncles, aunts, cousins, and a multitude of beloved family members and friends who will miss her dearly. ***************************************************************************** To leave an online memorial message for the family, please click on "Sign the Guestbook" below.
