Mobley

Queen Althea Gadsden Mobley, the daughter of the late Luther Talmadge Gadsden and Louisa Prioleau Gadsden, was born May 28, 1933 in Russellville, South Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at her residence.
She was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County.
Queen was a dedicated member of Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a founding member of the Mazyck Chancellor Choir and loved serving the Lord using her voice. She served in the following capacities: President of the Junior and Senior Choirs, Mazyck Chancellor Choir and Choir No. 2, member of the Vestry, Kitchen Committee member, and she participated in the summer food program. Following the legacy of her father, Queen was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. John Chapter #213.
Queen was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Velon Mobley on January 3, 1952. They were blessed with five children. Her husband and a son, James Windel Mobley preceded her in death.
Queen was very fancy, loving and extremely funny. She loved to laugh and make others laugh. She cooked from an early age and perfected the art of baking cakes. She baked and cooked for the community. Her hobbies included traveling, cooking, sewing, quilting and gardening.
Queen loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Queen and her husband had an open door policy to family and friends. Visitors were always welcomed. She loved taking annual trips with her sisters by plane, train or automobile as they traveled across the United States. Queen knew that family was a blessing from God.
Those left to cherish her memories include: her children, Betty J.M. Lane (Raymond) of New Jersey, William Cleophas Mobley (Elissa) of St. Stephen, SC, Michael Owens Mobley (Marie) and Leslie Louise Mobley both of the home; siblings, Lutha Mae Johnson (Ollie), Julia Ann Brunson (Charles) and Curtis Lee Gadsden (Marsha); brother-in-law, Nelson Murray; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Ruth Murray, Helen Johnson (Bearthur), Bernice Addison (Ransom Jr.), Ernestine Gadsden and Robert L. Gadsden.
