Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ~ II Timothy 4:7 Mother Rachel Anderson Jones, the daughter of the late Jim Anderson and Rachel Strothers, was born on November 28, 1915 in Eutawville, (Springwood), South Carolina. After the death of her mother at an early age, Rachel was reared by the late Theodore and Maggie Jefferson. Rachel received her education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC. Rachel was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Jones. This union was blessed with six children. Her husband and one son, Arthur Jones, preceded her in death. At an early age, Rachel became a member of Unity Baptist Church, Eutawville, SC and remained there until marriage. After marriage, she joined her husband at Smith Chapel Methodist Church. Later she became a member of First Born Holiness Church under the leadership of Evangelist Mary Prioleau. She was an active member and served as Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary. After her health declined, Rachel joined her daughter at Messiah Reformed Episcopal Church. She remained a dedicated and faithful member. She was loved and admired for her life living and teaching; and she served as the Mother of the church. Rachel was well known in the Pineville-Lina Community and throughout Berkeley County, SC. She was a well known devotional leader. On August 13, 2013, she was presented a Proclamation from the State of South Carolina for being the oldest living member in the Lina Community. On Wednesday, January 22, 2014, Mother Jones quietly slipped away in a peaceful sleep into eternal life with the Lord. Rachel will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle and humble spirit, and her unwavering faith in God. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish sweet and loving memories are: two loving daughters, Essie Victoria Benekin of Pineville, SC and Daisy Green (Sam) of Columbia, SC; three sons, Willie Jones (Versalle) of Greenville, SC, Moses Jones (Valarie) of Pineville, SC and Joseph Jones of Miramar, FL; eighteen (18) grandchildren: Willie Wynn, Lutrica Gethers (Wilbur), Stanley Jerido (Yolanda), Dawn McCammon (Jamain), Kenneth Blanding (Andrea), Jerome Blanding (Mary), Brenda Jones-Greene, Robersene Blanding, Maxine Okoye (Emmanuel), Anthony Jones, Angela Nesbitt, Vanessa Pete (Larry), Janice Blanding, Jevon Jones, Tyrone Jones, Leon Jones, Chidarell Glaze (Cail), and Ieshia Gaddist; thirty-three (33) great-grandchildren, nineteen (19) great-great-grandchildren; a special goddaughter, Mary Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rachel was preceded in death by one sister, Estelle Jefferson and one grandson, Derrick Jones.
