Rebecca "Babe" Nelson Gadsden was born on September 1, 1928 in Cross, South Carolina. She was the youngest of ten children born to the late Joe and Mary Nelson. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina. She received her formal education in the Berkeley County School System. She completed further training at Clemson University Extension Service which enabled her to work with low income families as a Food and Nutrition Assistant. Rebecca accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined Bethel United Methodist Church. She loved her church and served faithfully as a member of the: Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Administrative Board, United Methodist Women, Prayer Band, Senior Choir and Communion Stewardess Board. Rebecca was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Gadsden for more than sixty-one years. This union was blessed with three children. Her husband preceded her in death. Rebecca was a devoted wife and mother and extended a helping had to anyone who needed it. Those left to cherish her memories are: three devoted daughters, Mary (Jessie) Saxon of St. Stephen, SC, Geraldine (Glenn) Robinson of Moncks Corner, SC and Frances Gadsden of the home; four grandchildren, Jessie Jr. (Belinda), Rebecca, Bethlynn and Bryan; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Alana and Marsal; one brother, Rev. Lewis Nelson; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Leola Gadsden; a godson, Kevin Green and a devoted goddaughter, Beulah Harley; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, a special cousin who was like a sister, Sally McHoney, other relatives and friends.
