Obituary

Rebecca Smalls Lloyd Vanish was born to Benjamin and Laura Smalls on August 13, 1915 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Rebecca was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She was employed with Moncks Corner Cleaners for 65 plus years. Rebecca was joined in Holy Matrimony to James Lloyd on April 9, 1932. To this union six children were born. James departed this earthly world on June 6, 1964. Later in life she met and married Lewis St. Julian Vanish on April 18, 1970. Lewis also preceded her in death. Rebecca accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She became a member of Greater Emanuel A.M.E. Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a devoted and active member and served in several organizations: Trustee Board, Usher Board, Choir, and Women's Missionary Society. She also served as Church Secretary and Sunday School Teacher. Rebecca was a devoted shepherd for her church community and was always available to serve the Lord as needed. She was also a member of Moncks Corner Chapter #161, Order of the Eastern Star. Rebecca Lloyd Vanish was called to glory with the Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Bronx, New York. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering faith in God. She will be greatly missed by many. Rebecca was preceded in death by her daughter, Isabell Wright; grandsons, George Lee Wright and Anthony Lloyd; great-grandson, Michael Baxter; four sisters, Anniebell, Janie, Albertha and Elouise. Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Benjamin Lloyd, Jesse Lloyd (Gladys), Lillian Lloyd, Roberta Smalls (George) and Barbara Robinson all of New York, NY; eight stepchildren, Thomas Vanish (Verdelle), Jesse Vanish (Thelma), Burnett Vanish (Ruth), Lewis Vanish, Clark Vanish (Linda), Miriam P. V. Ham (Quincy) and Gwendolyn V. Williams (Robert) and Henry "Snook" Gillians; one granddaughter, Robin J. Baxter who was her lifeline throughout her journey and took special care of her grandmother; 8 grandsons; 15 great-grandchildren and 16 great, great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Green; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Manigault (Benjamin) and Elizabeth Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
