Obituary

God saw the road was getting rough, The hills were hard to climb; He gently closed those loving eyes, And whispered, "Peace is thine." The weary hours, the days of pain The sleepless nights are passed; The ever patient worn out frame Has found sweet rest at LAST. Early Monday morning on October 19, 2009 around 1:30 a.m. at the Susan B. McKinney Nursing Home, the Lord took His willing servant, Richard Allen Lloyd, home. Richard Allen Lloyd was born in Pineville, South Carolina on May 5, 1942. He was the fourth child of the late Allen and Alberta Lloyd. Five of his siblings: Frank, Annie Mae, Robert, John and Theodore, preceded him in death. Richard was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church, Pineville, South Carolina. In the early sixties, Richard moved to Brooklyn, New York. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Emeline Smalls. From this union, four children were born: Matthew (who preceded him in death), Craig, Richard Jr. and Gladys Lopez. Richard joined St. John A.M.E. Church under the tenure of Rev. Luther Charles Williams. He was a member of the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry and Class No. 7. Richard was employed at the GMC Parking Garage on 79th Street in New York City for many years. He retired from GMC on June 29, 2009. During his adult life, Richard enjoyed fishing and spending time with his fishing buddies. Richard was a fun loving, quiet-natured person who always greeted his family and friends with, "Happy Birthday, Come kiss me!" Richard leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Emeline; daughter, Gladys Lopez; sons, Craig Lloyd and Richard Lloyd, Jr.; grandchildren, Kareem, Destinee, DiJah, Shaquille, Amanda and Amir; sisters, Ruthie Ferguson and her husband Norris of Moncks Corner, SC and Eartha Brown and her husband Junior of Port St. Lucie, FL; brothers, Tony Lloyd, Jack Lloyd and his wife Willette of Pineville, SC and Nate Lloyd of Brooklyn, NY; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Smalls, Janet Smalls, Sadie Smalls and Jane Lloyd all of Brooklyn, NY; brother-in-law, Jessie Smalls of Brooklyn, NY; aunt, Evelyn Edwards of Pineville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fishing buddies. In tears we saw you sinking, And watched you fade away. Our hearts were almost broken, We wanted you to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain; How could we wish you back with us To suffer that again. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God took you home. The Family
