Obituary

Mr. Robert Gus Rollerson, better known to many as "Bobby", was born April 11, 1944, the oldest child of the late Estelle Rollerson Wilson. On Saturday, July 28, 2018, he was called home to be with the Lord.

Bobby received his early academic education at Bonneau Elementary School in Bonneau, SC, and his early Christian education at Bethel Methodist Church in the Forty-One Community, St. Stephen, SC. At the age of fifteen, Bobby moved to New York City to live with his uncle, the late Sam Rollerson. Living in New York City, Bobby attended worship services with Uncle Sam at First Corinthian Baptist Church, then later Charity Baptist Church. Upon his death, Bobby was a member of an Episcopal Church in New York City, NY.

Bobby was a January 1962 graduate of Charles Evans Hughes High School in New York City, NY. He furthered his education in Business and eventually began a career with Chase Manhattan Bank for over 30 years. Bobby was fluent in several languages and continued his connection working part-time and traveling as a Bank Consultant.

Bobby made a life for himself and remained in New York City after the death of his uncle and the rest of the New York family. Living in the Upper West Side of Manhattan and surrounded by many opportunities to enjoy the arts, Bobby developed a love for The Arts – Theatre/Plays, Opera, Music, and Paintings. He was a collector of Black Art, and a consistent contributor to various organizations that supported theatre, classical music, and performing and visual art in the Harlem community, such as the Harlem Chamber Players and The Studio Museum in Harlem.

Bobby loved his mother and his family, and enjoyed talking on the telephone with his mother EVERY week, and visiting his family in South Carolina when possible, despite living so far away from his family.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle R. Wilson, his step-father, Woodrow Wilson, Sr., two brothers, Woodrow, Jr., and Robert Lee Wilson, and brother-in-law, Glenn Theirse.

He leaves to cherish his many memories: his siblings, Carrie Rollerson, Margaret (Bernard) Owens, James (Alfreda) Wilson, Annie Mae (Leon) Milford, Barbara (Nathaniel) Milford, Cellamena W. Theirse, Rev. Johnnie (Cecelia) Wilson, Joe Nathaniel (Velma) Wilson, and Alyce R. Wilson; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Savage Wilson; 23 nieces and nephews; 39 grandnieces and grandnephews; two great, grandnephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
