Life Reflections

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."   ~ John 14:27

Robert William Hunter , a son of the late Nezzie Hunter-Washington and Isaac Hunter, was born on December 6, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a twin and the oldest of four brothers. He was called home to eternal life on October 11, 2021 in Charleston, SC, with his children at his side.

Robert was educated in the public schools of Durham, North Carolina where he and his brothers were raised. He attended Hillside High School, Durham, NC. He also attended Job Corps, Salt Lake City, UT; Springfield Technical Community College, Springfield, MA and graduated from Asnuntuck Community College, Enfield, CT.

Robert served in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge. He then lived most of his life in Springfield, MA. He also worked as a Machinist at Hamilton Standard (now known as Hamilton Sundstrand) for 40 plus years until his retirement.

He was a member of God's Way Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Barbara A. Calendar. He sang in the choir and was active with the Men's and Children's  ministries. He also sang in a group called, The Men Plus One, which he led the song, "Walk Around Heaven".

Robert was a leader in the community and very active in Martial Arts with the Johnson Red Dragons Kenpo Karate School for 25 years. He was a 2nd degree Black Belt and he taught the art under the leadership of Soke Paul Johnson. He was known to give great advice, encouragement,  support others  and always had a "you can do it" attitude. His love for helping others was infectious and extended beyond family and friends. He volunteered at his local food pantry and churches in his community.

He was a jazz enthusiast and was a lover of Soul and Gospel music. Let's not forget his love for his favorite teams: the North Carolina Tarheels, L.A. Lakers and Philadelphia Eagles! He also enjoyed tennis, golf, modeling and dancing.

Robert was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a caring brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin and friend to all.
