Rose Abigail Mifflin Myers, the daughter of the late Howard Mifflin, Charlotte Chisholm Mifflin and Florence King Mifflin, was born January 5, 1927, in Savannah, GA. She departed this life peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2008 at home in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Rose received her early education in the Savannah Area Schools, attending St. Benedict Catholic School and later receiving secondary education at Mather School, Beaufort, SC. The Mather School, one of the first African-American schools in Beaufort, was established to prepare the daughters of newly freed slaves to teach. Rose went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from South Carolina State College (now South Carolina State University) in 1950. Rose was united in holy matrimony on December 20, 1950 to the Reverend Joseph E. Myers, Jr. This union was blessed with one son, Joseph Rodney Myers; and two daughters, Janon B. Myers and Joeletta Myers Ivey. Reared in a home full of strong Catholic values instilled in her by her grandparents in Harris Neck, GA, Rose became a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She later became a member of Moncks Corner AME Church with her husband. Rose retired from public education (teaching) in 1976 after serving Berkeley County school system for thirty-four years. She was a member of Alpha Pi Chi, Sorority, Inc., a Professional and Businesswomen's Service Sorority geared to fulfilling the interest of the professional women. While attending South Carolina State University (1948), she became a member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. On January 19, 1980, Rose, along with twelve other ingenious and industrious young ladies of Berkeley County, chartered the Nu Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. After sixty years of service to her beloved sorority, she was recently awarded her Lifetime Membership. Rose also was an active member of the Moncks Corner Chapter #161 OES for fifty-five years. Myers (Vineda), Takoma Park, MD, Rodney L. Myers, Ft. Hood, TX, Khalilah L. Myers, Charlotte, NC, Joseph R. Myers (Joy), Sumter, SC, Stephan R.A. Myers and L. K. "Danny" Myers, Bossier, LA, Joshua R. Ivey, Miami, FL, Charlie W. Myers, North Charleston, SC, Jordan A. Ivey and Jaliyah L. Ivey, Miami, FL; great-grandchildren, Noa O. Myers and Maxwell L. Myers, Takoma Park, MD, Sariya J. Myers and Nasia Myers, Sumter, SC, and Charlie "CJ" W. Myers, Jr., North Charleston, SC; one sister, Emmaline Gibson, Los Angeles, CA; a cousin, Jean Foggs, Springfield, MA; two special nieces, Janet Rose Gibson-Robinson, Marblehead, MA and Marilyn C. Gibson, Los Angeles, CA; five sisters-in-law, Almena Myers, Nashville, TN, Bobbye Salters, Charleston, SC, Lillie Ruth Myers, Pineville, SC, Dorothy Hill (William), Monterey, CA, and Evangeline Allen, Marina, CA; one brother-in-law, Presiding Elder Samuel L. Myers (Mozelle), Charleston, SC; godchildren, Joseph Tisdale, Kingstree, SC and Chambria Bennett, Holy Hill, SC; extended family Ozra Sims and Rosa Davis; nieces, nephews, other relatives, dedicated friends, church families, and a host of others. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, the late Reverend Joseph E.
