Ruby Moultrie Greene, affectionately called "Mother", was born on May 20, 1926 in Alvin, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. She was educated in the Laurel Hill Schools and baptized at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Peter Prioleau. Ruby was one of the three daughters of Rennie and Minnie (Hartwell) Moultrie. She had two brothers by the name of Rennie Hamilton and David Hartwell and one other brother by the name of Frank Moultrie. Both of her sisters, Rosa Lee Bryant and Mable Bryant and brothers, Rennie and David have now passed. Ruby always was a fine looking sister, who knew how to dress well. Ruby helped her parents around the house and farm by doing housework like: washing, ironing, cooking and cleaning. She was no pushover when it came to doing hard work either. She could split rails and saw wood just as good as any man. She was tough and rugged, but was always a lady. She also retired from William Heller, Inc. and Santee River Wool. Ruby met her sweetheart, who she affectionately called "Addie" at the tender age of sixteen. They were blessed with eleven children, two of whom preceded her to the grave, Theodore and Marionette. One grandson, John Robinson and a great-grandson, Dominique Lampkin, also preceded her to the grave. Ruby enjoyed quilting, but she was best known for her biscuits, rice pudding and canning. She loved her husband and children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each one had a special place in her heart as she did in theirs. Mother was very active during her illness. Her mind was very sharp until the end as she transitioned to her new life, surrounded by all of those she loved. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her loving husband, Addison "Jack" Greene of the home; four daughters, Wilma Jane (Walter) Taylor and Mary Lee (Ronald) Hunter, Sr. both of Alvin, SC, Annette (David) McBride of St. Stephen, SC and Verna (Russell) Black of St. George, SC; five sons, Nathaniel (Delores) Greene of Miami, FL, Morris Greene of Cordesville, SC, Addison "A.J." (Cynthia) Greene, Robert Lee Greene and Vernon (Barbara) Greene all of Alvin, SC; one grandson reared in the home, Travis Greene of Alvin, SC; two daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Lampkin of Columbia, SC and Josephine Greene of Moncks Corner, SC; forty-one (41) grandchildren; sixty-seven (67) great-grandchildren; five (5) great, great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Moultrie of St. Stephen, SC; two sisters-in-law, Louise Greene and Florence Middleton both of Baltimore, MD; one aunt, Ella Squire of Alvin, SC; one godchild, Ethel Gethers of Alvin, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will all miss her dearly.
