Obituary

On the morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Ruth Ella Jamison ascended in the same manner in which she lived her life; with courage, dignity and grace.

Ruth Ella Jamison was born on November 18, 1938 to Arthur and Reaven Jamison. From that day forward she brought joy, candor and love into the lives of her family and countless others.

"Ru'sella", as she was affectionately known, grew up under the warm sun of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. She joined her parents and siblings in harvesting food off of their own lands and canning with her mother, although she would outwit her father, often by telling him that she "saw a snake in the fields" when there wasn't. This was all so that she could get out of working in the fields, a prime example of the wit and humor Ruth exuded that we all grew to know and love.

Ruth attended school in Moncks Corner into her teens, but one summer went to visit her older sister Catherine in New York City. That summer, at the age of 17, she met and fell in love with Roy Lee Taylor, originally of Holly Hill, SC. Determined to never let his love leave, Roy asked for her hand and they married in New York. From this union, they birthed a son Gregory and daughter Katrice (Pinky).

In 1973, Roy Taylor passed on and Ruth Ella, a devoted mother, continued on in raising their two children in Brooklyn, NY.

Ruth would go on to advance her career by attending nursing school and became employed by Long Life healthcare for many years, until she met and married George Fuller. They returned to South Carolina, where Ruth became the "community grandmother", loving known as Nana, and helped raise and babysit countless wonderful children on the hill of Long Ridge.

Ruth was a strong and devout Christian: a firm believer in God and a daily Bible reader; knowing it almost by heart, and lifelong member of the Greater St. James AME Church of Summerville.

She was preceded in death by her aforementioned parents and husbands, along with her brothers Phillip and Michael Jamison.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her children, Gregory Taylor (Yvette "Vette") and Katrice Taylor Palmer (Malcolm); grandchildren, Gregory Skyler Taylor (Courtney), Stephon Taylor, Kanifa Bradley (Justin) and Jaden Taylor; great-grandson, Miles Roy Taylor; daughter by marriage, Willistine Dingle and her children, Tiffany and Raymond Dingle; her special daughters, Lisa Gallop and Dora Polite; sisters, Delores Limehouse and Catherine Richardson (Isaac); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

We wholeheartedly thank Ruth Ella Taylor for her unconditional love, comfort and compassion. She lived a life of joy, and she will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.
